Welcome

Edinburgh Digital GEnesis Centre (EDGE) harnesses cross-sector resources to accelerate research and learning, addressing fundamental digitalisation issues connected with, but not limited to, the green economy, healthcare, education, manufacturing and construction. A key function of EDGE is: the analysis of digital technologies to enable coherent content channels; to develop a culture of content in and across a large variety of domains; to quantify the role and impact of content-knowledge fusion for future strategic/tactical business planning.

About Us

EDGE is a collective of disciplines working together in the content creation and consumption space enabled by digital tools to impact on the Digital Economy.

Digital content permeates our daily life, be it social, cultural or in business. Over £1bn of digital content – as in games, films, music, live media – is consumed yearly in the UK. At the same time, the pace of digital technologies is ramping. This is a perfect storm of demand and expectations that impact how individuals and businesses create, consume and exchange content, how this affects industry, society and community behaviours and culture.

Our passion in fusion methods and techniques can help you create tools, processes and platforms to produce richer content or conduct analysis to help you surface untapped knowledge within.

We are advocates of open innovation and co-development of generic digital technology. In doing so we contribute to addressing open issues in digital content creation, skills and social interactions.

We can also help tailor solutions to address fundamental digitalisation issues connected with, but not limited to, the green economy, healthcare, professional education, services, manufacturing and construction.

Together, we can build a better digital society and the next generation of digital innovators.

Fusion or Integration: What’s the difference?

Fusion, unlike Integration, focuses on deriving insight by enriching the components with semantic context from other sources. This is a critical distinction, as today’s most advanced (and critical), analytical applications need to go beyond basic ‘mixing’ but must instead fuse techniques and information together intelligently (e.g., human aspects and data reduction).

Research

EDGE brings together expertise and experience from the universities of Heriot-Watt and Edinburgh to provide multi-disciplinary research utilising techniques from Artificial Intelligence (AI), Manufacturing, Robotic Process Automation, Digital Twin, Data Analytics, User Experience Design, Serious Games, Psychology, Sociology across science, engineering and the arts and humanities.
